Harmonium of Texas

Mission & Vision

A new chapter in the history of music in San Antonio.

Mission Statement

Harmonium of Texas is dedicated to enriching and elevating the cultural landscape of San Antonio through world-class orchestral, chamber, and cross-genre performances. Harmonium embodies a transformative approach to music education and community partnerships while building a financially sustainable artistic institution that inspires audiences, empowers musicians, and connects Texans of all ages to the infinite richness and joy of great music, and to each other.

Vision

Harmonium of Texas launches an entirely new chapter in San Antonio's rich and distinguished musical history. This new model exemplifies the power of an outstanding orchestra to serve as a lightning rod both for the highest level of artistry and a multi-faceted, interdisciplinary approach to music education for Texans of all ages.

Harmonium will collaborate with Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA) to provide advanced music students with multiple and varied opportunities every season to perform alongside professional colleagues, and to interact with the internationally-acclaimed artists who will be collaborating with the orchestra. Harmonium will also partner regularly with the beloved San Antonio Mastersingers for performances of the great choral masterpieces.

In addition, Harmonium will provide an innovative adult education component, featuring a series of regular, interactive lecture-performances by Artistic Director Jeffrey Kahane and other distinguished guests, geared towards the many passionate music-lovers who are eager to deepen their knowledge and understanding of music in all its many facets.

Harmonium's events and activities will take place in a variety of venues around the city and beyond, and will be built on a financial model that is fully sustainable and provides the region's enormous musical talent with a stable source of income that has the potential to grow significantly over the years and decades to come.
